The Morning Journal (Lorain, OH)

Thanks extended to Lorain students, staff

-

The Nathan Perry Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution wants to give a huge thank you to the Lorain students and staff for writing letters to military personnel serving aboard the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier. We sent 3,118 letters to the ship, with about 2,520 of those letters being received from Lorain’s outstanding students.

Ohio DAR chapters contributed more than 6,000 letters total, so with the help of Lorain students, we provided half of Ohio’s letters.

We rubber-banded the letters together in packs of 100 and packed them in boxes of 500. They were mailed by June 14 so they would arrive on the ship by the Fourth of July. They told us not to worry because they will deliver them by helicopter.

It was wonderful to be able to deliver so many letters. The most important thing is the love, thanks and appreciation our military personnel will feel when they receive the letters. They will know they are valued and remembered.

We read the letters ourselves and were so touched and impressed with the Lorain students and staff. It is obvious the staff is excellent and dedicated and the students are hard-working and thoughtful.

At the end of the year, it would be so easy to just hastily write a few lines.

The effort put into the letters was apparent. They were heartfelt and touching. We know the letters will be very much appreciated and we are very grateful for your participation. Thank you. Mary Jane Burger Regent Nathan Perry Chapter NSDAR Vermilion
