Woman rides horse for second time
At age 87, Marie Robinson relived an experience from only one other time in her life.
On a dare Aug. 12, Robinson rode a horse provided by M&S Equine Services at a German Festival hosted by Amherst Historical Society at Sandstone Village in Amherst.
“A gentleman said he would pay for the pony if I would ride,” Robinson said. “He dared me to do it, and I had so much fun you wouldn’t believe.”
The one other time Robinson rode a horse, she was a sophomore in high school in Lorain, she said.
“I was in 10th grade,” Robinson said. “I rode in a parade for The Admiral (Ernest) King. He was a hero. I didn’t know how to ride. I was on the horse for six hours. I had blisters all up on my legs. It was the
only time I rode a horse.”
Now Robinson walks with a cane and has a brace on her leg.
And this time, people helped her mount the pony by placing a chair beside it for her to stand on, grabbing her leg and swinging it over the animal.
“When I went to get down from the horse, the
man said, ‘Grab me,’” Robinson said. “I said, ‘If I go down, you’re going down with me.’ He was real nice.
“This was just another adventure. Just something I can do, and I know I can do it if I want to. Just fun,” Robinson said. “The photographs of it got sent out on my Facebook and everybody is calling me.”
