Yard sale: Cornerston­e United Methodist Church, 2949 West River Road, North, Elyria, will host a yard sale and craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 26. Church come together for worship, picnic: The Lutheran and Episcopal churches in Lorain County are collaborat­ing on a fun summer worship service and picnic at 11 a.m. Aug. 20 at the High Meadows MetroPark on Ford Road in Elyria. The event is open to the public and all are welcome. A main course and drinks will be provided. Those attending are encouraged to bring a chair and a side dish or dessert to share. Bishop Abraham Allende, the bishop of the Northeaste­rn Ohio Synod of the Evangelica­l Lutheran Church in America, will be presiding, and the Rev. Brian Wilbert, priest at Christ Church in Oberlin and Historian of the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, will be preaching. Members from seven Lorain County churches will be attending. Additional parking is available at the shopping center south of the park. Laurie Miller, pastor of Christ Lutheran who organized the event said, “We are thrilled to come together in fellowship with the other Lutheran congregati­ons and our Episcopal friends in Lorain County to enjoy a fun summer celebratio­n. This is an excellent opportunit­y to bring friends in a casual setting to see what our churches are all about.” Picnic reunion: Members of the former St. Stanislaus Church in Lorain will host the annual picnic reunion from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Lakeview Park in the large gazebo. The event costs $3 per person, and participan­ts should bring a dish to share. Reservatio­ns, which are a must, need to be made by Sept. 1. Chicken Paprikas dinner: A Chicken Paprikas carryout dinner and bake sale will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E. 31st St., Lorain. Dinners consist of 1⁄4 chicken, stuffed cabbage, dumplings and gravy at $13 per dinner. Also available are dumplings and gravy and Haluska at $ per 1-pound container each. When placing orders, please specify white or dark meat. An assortment of pastries will also be for sale. Orders may be placed with the church office, Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon, by calling 440-277-8177. Deadline for placing orders is Sept. 22. Services added: First Congregati­onal UCC, 36363 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, has sported a Purple Question Mark on the front lawn for the past few weeks and people are talking. It is just what the committee has been hoping for because on Sept. 10, there will be an eventful change in the church’s history, not one, but two services will be offered, one at 9 a.m. and one at 10:30 a.m. All are invited to join the church services at 9 a.m. in Fellowship Hall located off the rear parking lot area. This will be an informal Coffee Café’ service with worship, music, coffee, and discussion. Following the informal interactiv­e Coffee Café’ service there will be fellowship time until 10:20 a.m. The traditiona­l worship service at 10:30 a.m. with a full choir, Children’s Time, communion twice a month, and the sermon. The second service will end at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome. For informatio­n call 440327-2921. Rummage sale: The Oberlin Lutheran Women’s League of Grace Lutheran Church, 310 W. Lorain St., Oberlin, will host the annual rummage sale Sept. 1 and 2. The sale will feature clothing for all including child and baby clothes, shoes, games, books, linens, and kitchenwar­e. The sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 1 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 2 with lunch available. The luncheon menu will offer cabbage and noodles, sloppy joes, hot dogs, chips and soft drinks and will be available for sale between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Homemade bakery will also be available for purchase both days. Tuition scholarshi­ps available: Christ Lutheran Preschool is offering six full tuition scholarshi­ps for its two-day pre-K class. To apply for a scholarshi­p the family must fill out an applicatio­n form and provide proof of a need for financial assistance (copy of tax return, etc). Families do not need to be Avon Lake residents to apply. To be considered, the child must be 4 years old before Aug. 1, 2017. Deadline to apply is Aug. 25. Christ Lutheran Preschool is a 5 Star Step Up to Quality Rated preschool and is the only Christian based preschool in Avon Lake. Blessings of pets: The congregati­on of Fields United Methodist Church, North Ridgeville, will sponsor a ‘Blessing Of The Pets’ event as part of its 5 p.m. outdoor service Aug. 19. The public is welcome to join as we give thanks to God for our beloved companions and bless their lives in the midst of ours. There will be an anointing of those animals who are sick and struggling, offering them comfort and those called to care for them peace and hope. All are welcome to join us at this spiritual celebratio­n to honor our loyal companions who love us unconditio­nally. The event will be in the church picnic pavilion. Please bring a donation of food, toys, cat litter, or cash to support a local animal shelter. Bring your dog, cat, bunny, hamster, chinchilla, ferret, rat, snake, turtle, fish, or any pet that you have that enriches your life.
