GAMES TO WATCH

Firelands at Oberlin, Aug. 31, 7

p.m.: Since 2011, Oberlin has lost to Firelands, 3-0, with the exception of last year’s game which the Phoenix lost in five sets. Olmsted Falls at Amherst, Sept. 5, 6:30p.m.: Always a fierce battle between two of the best teams the Southwestern Conference has to offer. Strongsville at Elyria, Sept. 5,

6:30p.m.: Last season, an early 3-2loss to Strongsville kept Elyria from earning a Greater Cleveland Conference championship. Amherst at Avon, Sept. 14, 6:30p.m.: The Southwestern Conference foes split last season’s games, each winning on the road. Elyria Catholic at Vermilion, Sept. 18, 7p.m.: Vermilion won last season’s game at Elyria Catholic. Both squads lost key players but should turn out another competitive game, this time on the Sailors’ home court. Lutheran West at Columbia, Sept. 19, 7p.m.: Columbia spoiled Lutheran West’s hopes for an outright PAC Stripes title when it beat the Longhorns in the final game of the season. These two fight for the division every year and this should be no different. Maple Heights at Lorain, Sept. 19, 6:30p.m.: Maple Heights handed Lorain its only conference loss of 2016and forced the Titans to share the LEL championship. Lorain will look to set the stage for the conference title. Lorain at Brookside, Sept. 27, 6:30p.m.: The Titans travel to Brookside and face a Cardinals team in a similar boat, having lost a lot of players to graduation. Wellington at Oberlin, Sept. 28, 7p.m.: Wellington struggled last season but was competitive in a 3-2loss to Oberlin late in the season. This game will be a good measuring stick for both teams. Vermilion at Lutheran West, Sept. 30, noon: Both teams are consistently at the tops of their respective conferences and should haver an entertaining, competitive game.
