THAT’S A KNOCKOUT
Annual event raises money, awareness for charity organization Power 4 Pink
It was a beautiful day to see some cars Aug. 20, and anyone who visited Rebman Recreation Inc, 5300 Oberlin Ave. in Lorain, got the chance to at the third annual Knock Out Car Show/Cruise-In.
The event is held each year in the parking lot of the bowling alley and benefits Power 4 Pink, a charity organization that has been seeking to help working poor women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer since it was founded in 2009.
Previously, Marcy Calvert, who started the organization, has said the organization focuses on individual patients and looks to make their lives easier by helping to fund their treatment.
Over 150 car enthusiasts put their cars to the test battling it out for a fivefoot-tall trophy and a $100 cash prize for best in show. It was sponsored by GenFed Credit Union, 5320 Oberlin Ave., and Rebman Recreation Inc. Music was provided by Frank LaManna presents.
Bonnie Pehorence, a manager with the credit union, said this year is the biggest the event has been, and she attributes that to the weather and the location of the show.
“It’s a nice car show, we have great music, we have a cash prize and it’s a very good cause,” she said.
Nick Plumb, 27, of Lorain, said he was mowing his father’s lawn nearby when he noticed the show and decided to check it out.

"I don’t care if it’s a car show, a football game, a basketball event or Rockin’ on the River; whatever it is that brings people to Lorain is awesome in my mind."
and have been known to attend ones at Quaker Steak and Lube.
“(They’re) tough looking cars,” he said. “I like cars. I like race cars. I like NASCAR. It’s just cool to get out and look at the old cars and all the work that got done on them.”
According to Plumb, events like these that bring people into the city are good for Lorain.
“I’m sure not everyone with these cars is from Lorain,” he said. “It gets people into Lorain. It gets people stopping in Lorain saying, ‘Oh we’re going to get dinner over here in Lorain.’ It just brings people to Lorain and it’s the best thing for it.
“I don’t care if it’s a car show, a football game, a basketball event or Rockin’ on the River; whatever it is that brings people to Lorain is awesome in my mind.”
Plumb, who was previously unaware of the event, also said he hopes they keep holding it.
