Outdoor Worship: Community Congregati­onal UCC will be hosting an outdoor worship and potluck picnic at 10 a.m., Oct. 10, at the Lakeview Park Gazebo. All of the money raised will go to a fund to help the needy in Lorain. Some available items: dishes, silverware, cooking utensils; furniture such as desks, tables, chairs; books; toys; Christmas decoration­s; pianos; hymnals; Bibles; candelabra­s, and much more. All are welcome. For informatio­n call 440-988-9148. Messy Church: Messy Church will be 4 to 6 p.m., the first Sunday of each month, at First United Methodist Church of Wellington, 127 Park Place. This will be a hands-on, interactiv­e way to worship as a family, involving story, prayer, song, games and a sit-down meal together at tables. People of all ages, adults and children are welcome. The public is welcome. Wednesday programs: Fields United Methodist Church, 34077 Lorain Road, North Ridgeville, will kick off a new Wednesday program on Sept. 13, for kids, youth and adults. There will be a variety of classes for all ages from 3 to 103 beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Spirit-filled contempora­ry worship service at 7:30 p.m. Childcare is available. All are welcome. Picnic reunion: Members of the former St. Stanislaus Church in Lorain will host the annual picnic reunion from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Lakeview Park in the large gazebo. The event costs $3 per person, and participan­ts should bring a dish to share. Reservatio­ns, which are a must, need to be made by Sept. 1. Chicken Paprikas dinner: A Chicken Paprikas carryout dinner and bake sale will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E. 31st St., Lorain. Dinners consist of 1⁄4 chicken, stuffed cabbage, dumplings and gravy at $13 per dinner. Also available are dumplings and gravy and Haluska at $ per 1-pound container each. When placing orders, please specify white or dark meat. An assortment of pastries will also be for sale. Orders may be placed with the church office, Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon, by calling 440-277-8177. Deadline for placing orders is Sept. 22. Services added: First Congregati­onal UCC, 36363 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, has sported a Purple Question Mark on the front lawn for the past few weeks and people are talking. It is just what the committee has been hoping for because on Sept. 10, there will be an eventful change in the church’s history, not one, but two services will be offered, one at 9 a.m. and one at 10:30 a.m. All are invited to join the church services at 9 a.m. in Fellowship Hall located off the rear parking lot area. This will be an informal Coffee Café’ service with worship, music, coffee, and discussion. Following the informal interactiv­e Coffee Café’ service there will be fellowship time until 10:20 a.m. The traditiona­l worship service at 10:30 a.m. with a full choir, Children’s Time, communion twice a month, and the sermon. Octoberfes­t: The Isabella Guild of Knights of Columbus, Fr. Ragan Council will host the second annual Octoberfes­t, Oct. 14, at Ragan Hall, 1783 Moore Road in Avon (next to BJ’s). This event is open to the public. Admission of $20 includes a traditiona­l German dinner, dessert and one draft beer. Additional beer tickets will be available for purchase. For informatio­n call 440324-1202. St. Vitus Adult Slovenian School: Sept. 9 marks the beginning of another year for the St. Vitus Adult Slovenian School. The language classes will meet two Saturday mornings a month from 9:15 to 11:45. Classes will be at St. Martin de Porres High School, 6111 Lausche Avenue, Cleveland. Tuition is $50 per semester or $100 for the whole year. Textbooks are from Slovenia and are purchased separately from each instructor.
