The Matt Wilhelm Award goes to the football player of the year for the Morning Journal area. The Wilhelm watch list is fluid and can change from week to week. In alphabetic­al order: • Darren Anders, North Olmsted, Jr.: Rushed 21 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns, adding a fumble recovery on defense, in a 42-35 overtime loss to North Ridgeville. For the season, Anders has 930 yards and 15 touchdowns on 121 carries and 257 yards and three touchdowns on 14 receptions on offense to go with four tackles for a loss, 10.5 sacks, an intercepti­on and two recovered fumbles on defense. • Nick Denney, Firelands, Sr.: Rushed 11 times for 129 yards and a touchdown, adding three catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns, in a 56-26 win over Wellington. For the season, Denney has 578 yards and seven touchdowns on 56 carries, adding 510 yards and seven touchdowns on 21 catches. He also has a kick return for a touchdown, two blocked field goals and 16 tackles. • Daylin Dower, Lorain, So.: Rushed 18 times for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a 39-6 win over Warrensvil­le Heights. For the season, Dower has 948 yards and 12 touchdowns on 100 carries, adding 98 yards and a touchdown on six receptions. • Drew Engle, Clearview, Jr.: Rushed 24 times for 99 yards and a touchdown in a 26-21 win over Columbia. For the season, Engle has 1,014 yards and 11 touchdowns on 126 carries. • Seamus Higley, Midview, Sr.: Was 11-for-16 for 230 yards and four touchdowns, adding three rushes for 25 yards, in a 55-6 win over Westlake. For the season, Higley is 98-for-159 for 1,376 yards, 21 touchdowns and four intercepti­ons, adding 170 yards and a touchdown on 42 carries. • Seth Hurd, Vermilion, Jr.: Was 23-for-42 for 240 yards, three touchdowns and an intercepti­on, adding 84 yards on 11 carries, along with an intercepti­on on defense, in a 36-22 loss to Port Clinton. For the season, Hurd is 98-for-154 for 1,115 yards, 16 touchdowns and five intercepti­ons, adding 414 yards and five touchdowns on 60 carries and five intercepti­ons (two returned for touchdowns) and 36 tackles on defense. • Ryan Maloy, Avon, Jr.: Was 11-for-17 for 139 yards and two touchdowns in a 54-21 win over Lakewood. For the season, Maloy is 96-for-132 for 1,390 yards, 14 touchdowns and three intercepti­ons, adding 291 yards and five touchdowns on 44 carries. • Jack Mikolich, Avon Lake, Jr.: Was 17-for-26 for 206 yards and two touchdowns, adding 15 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown, in a 40-28 win over Amherst. For the season, Mikolich is 93for-192 for 1,103 yards, nine touchdowns and six intercepti­ons, adding three touchdowns and 222 yards on 57 carries. • Chris Mullins, Avon, Sr.: Caught five passes for 74 yards and a touchdown in a 54-21 win over Lakewood. For the season, Mullins has 34 receptions for 696 yards and seven touchdowns. • Jonah Pfeil, Vermilion, Jr.: Caught 10 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns, adding four tackles and a recovered fumble on defense, in a 36-22 loss to Port Clinton. For the season, Pfeil has 47 receptions for 590 yards and nine touchdowns, adding two intercepti­ons (one returned for a touchdown), four fumble recoveries and 52 tackles on defense. • Konner Riggs, Avon Lake, Jr.: Rushed 26 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-28 win over Amherst. For the season, Riggs has 824 yards and eight touchdowns on 152 carries. • Khennedy Scagliozzo, Amherst, Jr.: Rushed 28 times for 128 yards and a touchdown, also throwing for a pair of scores, in a 4028 loss to Avon Lake. For the season, Scagliozzo has 1,273 yards and 16 touchdowns on 198 carries and three touchdown passes. • Justin Sturgill, Lorain, Sr.: Was 3-for-10 for 45 yards, adding five carries for 41 yards, in a 39-6 win over Warrensvil­le Heights. For the season, Sturgill is 60-for-111 for 941 yards, 15 touchdowns and one intercepti­on to go with four passes for two-point conversion­s, adding 50 carries for 255 yards and a touchdown. • Deviian Williams, Elyria, Sr.: Had seven receptions fro 124 yards and a touchdown in a 38-23 loss to Brunswick. For the season, Williams has 39 catches for 655 yards and six touchdowns. • Shomari Williams, North Ridgeville, Sr.: Rushed 22 times for 174 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-35 overtime win over North Olmsted. For the season, Williams has 809 yards and seven touchdowns on 139 carries, adding a pick-six, a forced fumble and three tackles for a loss — including 1.5 sacks — on defense. • Connor Wolfe, Midview, Sr.: Rushed 18 times for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a 55-6 win over Westlake. For the season, Wolfe has 1,036 yards and nine touchdowns on 138 carries, adding 51 yards and a touchdown on six catches. • Qwanda Woodson, Elyria, Jr.: Had 16 tackles in a 38-23 loss to Brunswick. For the season, Woodson has 90 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovered.
