Police: 4 men flee after car chase

-

Lorain police are looking for four men they say stole a car and then recklessly drove off and later fled on foot after police attempted to stop them.

Officers observed an 18-year-old Lorain man in the possession of a stolen truck at the Dairy Mart, 2806 Grove Ave., at 11:49 p.m. Nov. 23, according to a Lorain police report.

The report said the man, who was pumping gasoline, stopped when an officer left his vehicle to confront him, the report said.

The man got into the driver’s seat of the vehicle, with three passengers, and drove off recklessly almost striking another vehicle, according to the report.

The vehicle turned west onto East 28th Street and then turned south onto Clinton Avenue the report said. Continuing to drive recklessly, the car missed stop signs on East 29th, East 30th and East 31st streets, according to the report.

A resident on Caferro Avenue called 911 and said unknown males ran from the truck which was now in his driveway, the report said.

Police noticed multiple cellphones, a woman’s purse, a black shoe and black sweatpants that were left in the vehicle.

Officers took footage from the Dairy Mart showing four males run into the vehicle as the police car approached, according to the report.

An officer later was asked about the incident, during a separate traffic stop, by a mother of one of the vehicle’s passengers who said she couldn’t reach her son, the report said.

The mother, a 39-yearold Lorain woman, said her son identified the driver as his cousin and the other two occupants as other cousins of the driver, according to the report.

The woman said her son was pressured by the other men not to come forward, the report said.

Police completed an affidavit, for warrant consideration, on a charges of receiving stolen property, a citation for reckless driving and felony fleeing, the report said.
