Bay girls soccer coach Jack Griffiths made it official on Jan. 9 when he turned in his resignation letter and decided to retire from the sport, ending a 10year relationship with the Rockets and over 25 years of coaching.

Griffiths sported a 124-3926 record (.761 winning percentage) with Bay. He won the Greater Cleveland Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2012, 2015, and 2016.

He is a three-time Great Lakes Conference Coach of the Year (2015, ’16, ’17) and two-time West Shore Conference Coach of the Year (2009, ’12). In 2011, Griffiths earned the Ohio High School Athletic Association State and Greater Cleveland Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association SEI Coach of the Year.

Bay had major success, particularly in the last two seasons under his watch, appearing in a 2016 state semifinal and 2017 regional final.

“I have turned in my resignation letter to Bay High School and I am retiring from coaching,” Griffiths said in an email. “I plan to spend even more time on the golf course and helping to look after my new grandson, Jacob Barnes. I will miss coaching.”

Griffiths was also a Premier and travel coach. He spent 10 years as a Premier coach with the Excalibur Club and is the current girls director of development and

prior board member of the Bay soccer club.

He is a prior board member of the North Olmsted soccer organization and is a travel coach for the Westlake Soccer Association. “He has done a tremendous job in making the girls soccer program a top-notch program, one of the best in the state,” Bay athletic director Matt Spellman said in an email. “More importantly, he has positively impacted so many young women’s lives through coaching soccer.”
