- Staff report

A Lorain County grand jury will consider the case of a Lorain man accused of murder in the death of another man on New Year’s Day.

Marlon J. Johnson, 42, was charged with murder in the death of Todd Michael Dais, 45, who was shot multiple times in the early morning hours of Jan. 1, according to Lorain police and court records.

Johnson has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In a preliminary hearing Jan. 9, Lorain Municipal Judge Mark J. Mihok bound the case over for consideration by the Lorain County grand jury.

Lorain police say they located Dais at 5:38 a.m. in the basement of a home in the 800 block of West 22nd Street after receiving calls of shots fired.

Johnson was seen leaving the property in a red on gray older model vehicle that officers believed was possibly a late model Buick Roadmaster.

Authorities put the community on notice that Johnson was on the run and possibly armed and dangerous. They included photos of Johnson and the car.

Johnson was arrested without incident at 10 a.m. the next day on Sterling Road.

Johnson was on parole following his parole hearing Feb. 7, after serving nine years in prison for robbery, aggravated burglary, abduction, intimidation and domestic violence through the Lorain County Common Pleas Court and Medina County Common Pleas Court, according to court records.

In an arraignment hearing, Lorain Municipal Judge Thomas J. Elwell Jr. set Johnson’s bond at $1 million. Johnson remained at the Lorain County Jail.
