The Lorain Port Authority Marine Patrol operated from May 1 to Nov. 18 last year.
Officers conducted boat patrols and courtesy safety inspections from May 2 to Oct. 29.
At 641.25 hours from April to November last year, boat patrol hours were by far the largest use of patrol time. There were 56 hours spent on boat safety inspections; 21 hours for land patrol; and 14 hours for investigations.
The patrol officers spent 148 hours on training and 32 hours on education programs. Officers spent 220 hours for maintenance, 136.5 hours for administration and 1.5 hours for clerical work.
Officers did 20 on-water written safety checks and 111 safety checks at boat
ramps and docks.
The marine patrol made 1,126 spot checks and issued 182 warnings. The warnings included 56 for navigation rules; 30 warnings for visual distress signals; 23 warnings for registration and numbering violations; 30 warnings for other types of violations.
For special events, the marine patrol spent 50 hours observing the Cabela’s 2017 National Walleye Tournament; 16 hours for the Black River Clean-Up; 26 hours over two days for Rockin’ on the River weekly concert series; 10 hours for the tall ship visit by the Nina and Pinta historic replicas; and five hours for youth sailing program of the Lorain Sailing & Yacht Club.
