- By Kevin Martin

Avon Lake welcomed the newest member of the Avon Lake Planning Commission on Jan. 9.

Michael K. Lisi was sworn in by Law Director Abe Lieberman during a short ceremony.

Lisi, a music teacher at Avon Lake High School, brings a blended background to the Planning Commission where he has worked on strategic planning with the school system.

He has master’s degrees in music education and business administration.

Since 2007, Lisi has served as a member of the Ohio Department of Education’s Committee for Arts and Innovative Thinking. He previously served on Avon Lake’s Environmental Affairs Advisory Board in from 200709.

Lisi will serve a fiveyear term on the Planning Commission. He replaced chair James Simonovich.

“Avon Lake is a community that, although running out of residential space, still has a great deal of potential for growth and development,” Lisi wrote in his application. “The decisions made within the next decade will determine the look and feel of our wonderful community.”

Lisi added he looked forward to being a part of decisions to re-evaluate the city’s planning and design for commercial property as the city deals with recent devaluation of these type of structures and land.

“Decisions made concerning the use of these properties could improve the equity of our tax base across the city limits and raise property values in areas to the west where growth has been inhibited,” he wrote.
