Heritage Elementary to host Science Night

- Staff report

Avon Heritage Elementary School, 35575 Detroit Road, is inviting the community to its annual Science Night from 6 to 8 p.m. March 8, according to a news release.

More than 45 presenters will present exhibits posted throughout the north and south campuses providing students, parents and the community an up close look into the world of science, the release said.

“Science Night is a special event,” said fifth-grade science teacher Amy Rottman. “It generates excitement for science throughout the student population at a celebrity level.

“The students talk about it for weeks in advance and plot their favorite presenters to visit from past years, and look forward to new presenters as well.

“It’s not every day you see kids so enthusiastic about academics. The atmosphere is electric; I love it.”

Rottman said the event has a wide variety of presenters exposing students to how science plays out in the real world in addition to getting to learn about different career opportunities.

“We especially love that Science Night emphasizes the areas of physical and earth science; areas that many students have not been overly exposed to yet in school,” she said. “It really helps make connections when we cover these topics in our science classes.”

Teachers Stephanie Reichert and Sara Armagno also are coordinating the events made possible through grants from the Avon Schools Educational Endowment Fund and are sponsored by the Avon Heritage Boosters, the release said.
