Wellington High School junior scores perfect ACT

-

Wellington High School junior Savannah McKee, 17, has earned the highest possible ACT Composite score of 36.

Nationally, while the actual number of students earning the top score varies from year-to-year, on average, less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn the top perfect score.

According to school Guidance Department records, the school has had one other student since 1999 receive a 36 on the ACT. A 2004 graduate also earned a perfect score of 36 on the test.

Savannah took the ACT a few weeks ago for the first time. She also was just 20 points shy of earning a perfect score on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT) last year.

“I was surprised to learn I received a perfect score,” she said. “I have always taken honors classes in school and my favorite class is Ag Business I as it teaches a lot about public speaking, leadership and communications. I have always loved math and history in school.”

At Wellington High School, she is secretary for the Future Farmers of America, president of the Civil War Club, is involved in Drama and Key Club, and is also an intern for the College Impact program which provides students with SAT/ ACT prep.

She has attended Wellington Village Schools since kindergarten.

Savannah is undecided on which college she would like to attend and has just recently started college visits. She is interested in possibly pursuing a career in criminology and would like to possibly be a K-9 officer as she loves animals.

Her interests outside of school include involvement in her church youth group at Elyria Baptist Church, where she plays guitar. She is also learning to play the banjo.

Her parents are John and Donnis McKee. She has a brother who is a sophomore at Wellington and twin brothers in eighthgrade who attend McCormick Middle School.

Her father is self-employed, working in the construction business. Her mother plays piano and is the accompanist for the high school and middle school choirs in Wellington.

The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science.

Each test is scored on a scale of 1–36, and a student’s composite score is the average of the four test scores.

Some students also take the optional ACT writing test, but the score for that test is reported separately and is not included within the ACT Composite score.
