Readers share their thoughts on changes coming to Ohio driver’s license and state ID cards

-

they take your picture they hand you your card, you check for mistakes you put you new card in your wallet and leave, can some one please explain how they made it more secure?

— James Seman ok then so what if you don’t get your card in the mail in the allotted time and or its “lost” in the mail ..... my opinion its ridiculous and we should be able to get it right there like we always do instead of now having to wait for 10 or so days to get it in the mail!!

— Tiffany Arnold How will this save money when it now requires postage and new paper? How does sending my personal ID card out into the world make it more secure after we’ve seen videos of people stealing mail and mailmen not delivering mail?!

— Fie Kyndley The license looks like it’s from the 80’s. And it seems like it’s just a waste of time and money to send it when they could just print it out and hand me the new one.

Don’t like it. It’s gonna cost postage. We still have to go to the BMV and wait in line to pay and get our pic taken. Now we gotta wait in the mail. Is the temp one free?

— Chris Reedy Wonder whose Bright idea this is!??!! Probably another way to raise the cost again as have to pay for postage which I think now is $.50 ???? plus the cost of the paper one while you wait!!! Stupid, Stupid!!!

— Evelyn Hoff These days we have problems taking packages that are delivered, now we are giving criminals a thought to take our mail in hopes of steeling our identity!

— Sharon Salem Frate When we moved from Ohio to NC this is how they do it to. We get a paper one til the real one comes in the mail. No big deal.

— Kimberly Grimm

Greater security ? ...... & identification security ? ...... the person it is for is right in front of a clerk ..... handing it to them is safer than putting in the mail ? ..... WE NEED TO VOTE THESE DECISION MAKERS OUT ........

— Commer Kellie McGowan Watch your mail because people are going to be going through it like mad. You get your license, you put it in your wallet and you are out of there. The mail, probably the most insecure way to get a license I’ve ever heard of. Remember when they use to go through your mail to steal your SS checks? Then they went to direct deposit. So, people start stealing these drivers license and what are they going to do to fix that? They are going to start handing it to you right when you get it! Of course, by then there will be thousands of people with stolen licenses running around. Who came up with this idea? We need to protest this, contact your reps. and put a stop to this change..

— Deb Brady When I lived in Utah, they had this process already. They would print off a temporary ID on paper and give it to you to use until your new one arrived in the mail 2 weeks later. Was not a fan, especially when I couldn’t buy alcohol with the paper ID.

Seemed like an unnecessary waste to me and a better chance for ID theft.

Did anyone read the story? It’s not stupid or dumb it’s for our protection —Christina Rodriguez Furth
