Landry wants OBJ on Browns

WR tweets about fellow LSU product; trade price would be steep

Browns new receiver Jarvis Landry is trying to do something his bosses are forbidden to do — persuade disgruntled Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to end up in Berea for the 2018 season,

Beckham is under contract for 2018, but has vowed he won’t step onto a football field without a new deal. He reportedly is looking for $20 million a year.

Beckham and Landry, acquired in a trade with the Dolphins earlier this month, were teammates at LSU. Landry was busy on Twitter on March 26 sending clear messages to his friend.

“Come to the @Browns reunite me with my brother @OBJ_3 #13 #80,” Landry tweeted.

He followed that with two more tweets: “WE WANT BECKHAM” and “#CLEVELAND @OBJ.”

It doesn’t take much imagination how giddy Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley would be if he could design game plans for Landry, Beckham and Josh Gordon, but nothing in imminent, Beckham would not come cheaply, and he would come with baggage.

“We’re certainly not shopping him, if that’s what you’re asking,” Giants co-owner John Mara told reporters on March 26 at the league meetings in Orlando, Fla.

“When you’re coming off a season where you’re 3-13 and played as poorly as we played, I wouldn’t say anyone’s untouchable.”

Not only does Beckham want a new contract that would pay him far more than the $8.459 million he is due in 2018 in the final year of his rookie contract. There also is uneasiness in New York over a video appearing to show Beckham smoking what looks like a brown cigarette.

The Browns and all 30 other teams are not supposed to talk about Beckham because he under contract to the Giants. However, a report out of Orlando says the Los Angeles Rams have talked to the Giants about a possible

trade.

The report says the Giants would demand a firstround draft pick and more, which means the Browns would likely have to part with the fourth overall pick in the draft on April 26. They would retain the first pick.

Beckham, the 12th pick in the 2014 draft (four picks after former Browns general manager Ray Farmer drafted cornerback Justin Gilbert) caught 91 passes as a rookie, 96 in 2015 and 101 in 2016.

An ankle injury limited him to four games and two starts last season. He still caught 25 passes, which projected over 16 games would equal a 100-catch season.
