New Odyssey to perform for library system
The Elyria Public Library System will welcome back Chicago cover band New Odyssey–3 Guys 30 Instruments for a farewell concert from 7 to 9 p.m. May 5 at Elyria High School’s Performing Arts Center, 600 West Ave.
Funds from the concert will go to support the Elyria Public Library Foundation Group, an organization that supports the Elyria Public Library System. The group’s purpose is to raise, secure and invest funds for future library needs and projects, according to the Elyria Public Library.
Adam Matthews, marketing and communications director, said a portion of those funds could go to the creation of the system’s new library.
New Odyssey has played for Elyria Public Library System in the past, but will return to Elyria High’s Performing Arts Center.
The band of three men who play 30 different instruments is celebrating 40 years together this month during its farewell tour.
The instruments include a pocket trumpet, accordion, sousaphone, melodica, banjo and bass trumpet, according to the band’s website.
New Odyssey performs genres of classic rock, country, novelty and specialty arrangements. With technology, New Odyssey updates their material and creates timeless musical compositions, according to a news release.
The band has played in performing arts theaters, festivals and corporate events, according to the release.
Matthews said he is happy to have the band come back in support of the library’s future. Many in the community are excited to see New Odyssey perform at the Performing Arts Center, he said.
“People are still raving about (past performances) and so many are looking forward to (their upcoming performance),” Matthews said.
Tickets are available at eplsfoundation.org for $20. Meet-and-greet plus show tickets are $35.
The Library Foundation Group has sold over 400 tickets so far, Matthews said, and meet-and-greets tickets are going fast.
