Name: Emma Kelley Age: 17 Nationality: Lebanese Sponsor: VFW Post #1662 Parents: Mark and Misty Kelley High school: Marion L. Steele High School Future plans: I plan to attend Rollins College to study sports broadcasting/ journalism. Costume: My costume is an authentic gown from Lebanon, brought over by my cousin Tracy Dick. This gown is worn by Lebanese women for special occasions, such as family celebrations and weddings. It is maroon with gold embroidery to represent the richness of the Lebanese soil. The headpiece and veil are made out of a sheer gold material, which was made by my aunt Regina Dick. Favorite tradition: At every family gathering, such as graduations, birthdays, weddings, or family reunions, my family members serve traditional Lebanese foods like kouba, baklava, tabbouleh, grape leaves, and hummus. Favorite native dish: Baklava and Tabbouleh Being an International Princess has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. My mother was the Lebanese princess, and I grew up hearing her stories and looking at her scrapbook of pictures. I had a special bond with my great-grandfather, and I always wanted to learn more about my Lebanese heritage. It means a lot to finally be able to share my heritage with others. I want nothing more than to make my great-grandfather proud by representing my nationality, and I know he is looking down on me, proud of the young woman I am today. Having the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful experience, has been a true blessing. I am blessed to not only share my own heritage, but to have the chance to learn about, and appreciate other heritages. This is a once in a lifetime experience, and I am truly blessed to be a part of it.
