An Elyria man is facing felony charges after authorities say he assaulted a police officer Oct. 16.

Samuel Marmolejos, 23, faces charges of assault on a police officer, a fourth-degree felony; obstructing official business, a fifth-degree felony; two counts of domestic violence and two counts of assault, both firstdegree misdemeanors; and resisting arrest, a seconddegree misdemeanor, according to an Elyria police report.

Officers responded at 4 p.m. to the 1000 block of Melvyn Lane for a witness who saw Marmolejos and a woman get into an argument in the driveway, the report said.

The argument resulted in Marmolejos reversing out of the driveway at a high-rate of speed, hitting the woman’s arm with the open passenger door of his vehicle, the report said.

Marmolejos then exited the vehicle and left the scene on foot to the 1100 block of Melvyn Lane.

Officers caught up to him there, but he refused to put his hands behind his back, according to the report.

Marmolejos struggled with an officer leading to him dragging the two to the ground, the report said.

During the struggle, he also made an attempt for the officer’s gun, according to the report.

This prompted another officer to punch Marmolejos in the face which resulted in him being handcuffed, the report said.

Marmolejos, who is at the Lorain County Jail on a $12,250 bond, is scheduled to appear Oct. 29, before Elyria Municipal Court Judge Robert C. White.
