Youngstown’s Bohannon receives preseason honors
Naz Bohannon continues to make an impact wherever he goes.
On Oct. 17, the Horizon League released its annual preseason awards, and the Youngstown State sophomore was given second team All-Horizon League honors — the only Penguin to receive a preseason honor.
Bohannon, the Lorain product who was a twotime Morning Journal boys basketball Player of the Year, is coming off of a freshman season in which he earned All-Freshman team honors.
He appeared in all 32 of Youngstown State’s games, starting in all
but one. He averaged 7.2 points and paced the Penguins with 8.1 rebounds per game. His 259 rebounds over the course of the season were the most
by a Youngstown State player since the 1991-92 season.
Bohannon was joined on the second team by Green Bay’s Kameron Hankerson, North Kentucky’s Jalen Tate, UIC’s Tarkus Ferguson and Wright State’s mark Hughes.
Northern Kentucky’s Drew McDonald was selected as the preseason Player of the Year.
In addition to the preseason accolades, the league’s coaches, media and sports information directors released the preseason poll, and Youngstown State did not receive much praise.
The Penguins are projected to finish ninth in the 10-team league, beating out only Detroit Mercy.
Bohannon and the Penguins will return to Cleveland on Jan. 26 as Youngstown State takes on Cleveland State.
