Lorain man faces felony drug charges

- Staff report

A 25-year-old Lorain man is facing multiple felony drug charges following a two-month investigation by detectives, according to a Lorain police news release.

Amos B. Jackson was charged with trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, all fifth-degree felonies, and drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, as a result of the drug investigation, the release said.

At 2:30 p.m. Nov. 8, the Lorain Police Narcotics Unit, with the assistance of Lorain patrol officers, K-9 officers, detective bureau, Adult Parole, DEA, the Elyria Police Department and the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office, executed a search warrant at 1214 W. 24th St., according to the release.

The search warrant was the result of an investigation headed up by Detective Howard Heathcoat.

The address was brought to the attention of the Lorain Police Narcotics Unit as citizens in the neighborhood would send tips in via tip411 multiple times a week over the past few months indicating Jackson actively was selling illegal narcotics, the release said.

Through surveillance, controlled purchases of narcotics from Jackson and other investigative means, a search warrant was obtained for the residence as well as an arrest warrant for Jackson, the release said.

At the time of his arrest, Jackson possessed 4 grams of fentanyl, 1.7 grams of cocaine, along with some marijuana and cash, according to the release.

Jackson has an extensive drug history dating back to 2004 when he was convicted of felony possession of drugs, the release said.

In 2015, he was convicted of three counts of trafficking in drugs, two counts of possession of drugs and having weapons while under disability.

Jackson is lodged at the Lorain County Jail.

His bond information is pending until a 1 p.m. Nov. 9 Lorain Municipal Court hearing.

Due to the recent surge in opiate related fatalities, pending further investigation, Jackson’s case may be turned over to federal authorities for prosecution under the Operation S.O.S. program, according to the release.

Citizens with complaints of drug activity are encouraged to contact the Lorain Police Narcotics Unit at 440-204-2108 or text anonymously using tip411.
