The city of Lorain could get a new $9 million headquarters for municipal services.

Meanwhile, plans still are in the works to build a new east side fire station. The city also could take action to finish the transfer of Victory Park, with Lorain’s World War I monument, to the Lorain Port Authority.

Council met Dec. 3 and did not discuss the items or approve them. However, the needed legislation will show up again on Council’s agenda and during committee this month, making for a busy end to 2018.

Council will consider hiring a design-build firm to design a new service complex.

“The Public Property facility has outlived its useful life,” according to the legislation. The building at 114 E. 35th St. has been the city garage since 1977 and generally is in rough shape.

The city also has property to build a new facility on West Park Drive and will spend up to $9.02 million for the project, according to the legislation.

The service complex would be about 82,204 square feet in size.

A cost breakdown for the facility includes a garage for vehicle maintenance and traffic signage; offices and locker rooms for workers; conditioned and covered vehicle storage space; and a fuel station that will be used for all city cars and trucks.

“The Public Property facility has outlived its useful life.”
