A Lorain man pleaded guilty Dec. 3 to a slew of charges connected to a 2016 shooting, chase and stand off.

Charles E. Torres, 33, admitted his guilt to two counts of attempted murder, six counts of felonious assault, two counts of attempted kidnapping and single counts failure to comply, weapons under disability, improper handling of a firearm and discharge of a firearm near prohibited premises.

The plea does not come as the result of any promises from Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office and Torres is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 24 before Lorain County Common Pleas Court Judge James L. Miraldi, court officials said.

The charges stemmed from a shooting of a 26-year-old Lorain man in the early hours of Nov. 7, 2016, in the area of 31st Street and Elyria Avenue in Lorain.

The victim was the boyfriend of a Lorain woman, who witnessed the incident and is a former girlfriend of Torres.

After the victim was shot, the woman drove him to the area of the Lorain Police Department, 200 W. Erie Ave., where she lost control and crashed her vehicle, ran over a sign and came to a stop near the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 W. Erie Ave., police said at the time.

Torres was following the couple and confronted them again at the crash scene,

When officers began to respond, Torres took off, according to police.

The chase wound through Lorain, Avon Lake and Bay Village before he was cornered on a dead end street in Rocky River.

After a six-hour stand off, Torres was taken into custody, police said.

Torres is in the Lorain County Jail on $250,000 bond.
