The family of Roslyn Arroyo, of Lorain, who was the victim of a hit-and-run the night of Dec. 2 in Sheffield Township, is seeking help.

Angel Rivas, 35, of Lorain, created a Go Fund Me account for family and friends of his sister, who was 49 years old, to donate funds and help with funeral costs.

Rivas said his sister’s passing has been extremely hard on the family.

The family still is in recovery from the death of another family member two years ago also caused by a car crash, he said.

“This is a really bad time for (our family),” Rivas said. “We’re trying to raise enough money together ourselves for funeral costs.”

The family has received an out-pouring of support from the community, he said.

“So far, the outreach from friends, family and the community has been amazing,” Rivas said. “It’s really more than we can ask for.”

Rivas said donations on the GoFundMe account have been generous, but those reaching out and helping to give updates have been very supportive.

After two days, the GoFundMe account has raised over $3,500 toward the $7,000 goal.

Rivas said many people knew his sister for her big smile, red lipstick and great personality.

“She was the light of the family and compassionate and very giving and open,” he said. “She would always see the best in people and made sure they were all OK.”

two sons, a grandmother, a sister and fiancee.

She extended herself to people all the time and always laughed, made jokes and had a good time, Rivas said.

Many loved to be around her, he said.

The family hopes to find more information on the suspect who fled the scene so they can get closure, Rivas said.

“It’s tough to sleep knowing someone out there killed her,” he said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is still searching for the driver.

Troopers responded at 9:17 p.m. to the intersection of state routes 57 and 254 in Sheffield Township, according to a news release from the Highway Patrol.

Arroyo was walking east on Route 254 attempting to cross the north travel lanes of Route 57, the release said.

She was struck by an unknown, northbound, white vehicle, according to the release.

After striking Arroyo, the vehicle continued north on Route 57, the release said.

Arroyo was pronounced dead at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, according to the release.
