Police update community following stabbing
Amherst police are reassuring business owners and residents the community is safe following a Nov. 29 stabbing of two Lorain men.
In a letter to the community, Chief Joseph Kucirek said downtown remains safe but is asking people to remain vigilant, be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious activity to police.
“While the details of this incident are unusual for our downtown area, we feel, based on our investigation to date, that this was not a purely random act of violence,” Kuci-rek wrote.
At about 1 a.m., officers responded to an area behind a downtown business for a man suffering stab wounds.
Officers responded to the parking lot of 255 S. Main St. and located a 28-yearold Lorain man who was stabbed.
He was taken to University Hospitals Amherst Health Center and later flown to Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland.
Officers followed a blood trail to the rear of 223 S. Main St. and discovered more blood and a broken door window at the rear of the business.
In the basement, police discovered a 27-year-old Lorain man suffering stab wounds. He was transported to Mercy Health Hospital in Lorain and later by medical helicopter to Metro Health.
Police did not release the condition of the men.
Kucirek said detectives are investigating the incident, and police will continue to provide additional patrols during evening and nighttime hours in the downtown area.
