The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office recently wrapped-up two charity programs that resulted in funds going to support local organizations.

Employees of the Sheriff’s Office participated in Friday Dress Down Day and No Shave November which resulted in the total collection of $4,300 for the Blessing House, Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County and St. Elizabeth’s Homeless Shelter, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

“The programs went really well for us,” said Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jack Hammond. “We’ve been doing the Friday Dress Down Day for the past four years now.

“It allows employees, other than deputies of course, to come to work casually dressed after they pay a dollar each time. It typically raises $1,600, but we were able to raise an additional $2,700 by adding the No Shave November. It was $30 for the month for non shaver participants.”

Hammond said the Sheriff’s Office rallied behind the cause.

“People really got into it,” he said. “They were very generous and excited to dress down and leave some facial hair.”

Hammond said the Sheriff’s Office selected the charities based on obvious needs.

“You look at helping and supporting kids during Christmas and making sure the homeless have a bed and a hot meal in the winter,” he said.

“Those are areas that can always use the support.

“We are a part of this community, and it is our mission to help any way we can.”
