Miracle on Main Street
Holiday season officially kicks off
The Amherst community celebrated the 13th annual Miracle on Main Street on Dec. 7, kicking off the holiday season in the city’s downtown core.
Hundreds of attendees flocked to downtown Amherst taking in live music, and a parade stretching from the Amherst Public Library to Amherst’s town hall in a celebration of the season and the city’s revitalization efforts.
Numerous organizations and marching bands braved the weather to celebrate the city’s start to the Christmas and holiday season.
Teresa Gilles, executive director of Main Street Amherst said the seasonal shindig continues to grow year after year.
“To me this is my favorite event of the year. It brings the community together. It’s about community and family and just supporting our downtown businesses,” Gilles said.
Ward 4 Councilman Matt Nahorn emphasized the blend of tradition and supporting the local business community.
“Amherst’s annual Miracle on Main Street event is a fun, family-friendly tradition that blends welcoming the Christmas and holiday season with bringing better awareness of and opportunities for our local business community,” he said.
I am always glad to be able to be present and support this event with friends and family during the evening.”
In addition, Main Street Amherst’s headquarters featured its annual holiday train display from the Papay family. The Madrigals from Marion L. Steele High School also performed a selection of carols from the steps of Amherst Town Hall.
Gilles thanked the events sponsors including Sliman’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep.
“Their family is very generous to the community,” Gilles said.
