But the problems of last year were left in the past and, in the win, Logan became the leader Palmer has known him to be his entire career.

“He’s a born leader,” Palmer said. “I’m just proud of him. He’s helped me out so much. Being a rookie coach, with a guy like him on the floor it works out great for me.”

Edward Wright scored a game-high 19 points for Elyria Catholic while Eli Palmer added nine and Branson Taylor chipped in six points and eight rebounds.

It was a tall order to kick off the season on the road against a bitter Great Lakes Conference rival with a new coach and a brand new scheme, but Palmer said the way his team rose to the occasion has him excited for not only the conference title race but maybe even a playoff run down the line.

“There’s been plenty of good victories, but this is a table-setter,” Palmer said. “It lets the rest of the conference know we’re back and we’re here to play. Whatever style of game they want to throw at us, we’re ready to go.”

Quentin Richardson had 18 points and Aidan Hickey had 17 for Holy Name.

Elyria Catholic returns home Dec. 11 for a GLC matchup with Valley Forge.
