Local briefs Garden club to hear from organic grower
EAA 50 hosts Jan. 12 program
Experimental Aircraft Association 50 is hosting a program at the historic Hinde Airport, 1819 Boos Road in Huron, on Jan. 12 to honor one of EAA’s scholarship winners.
The winner, Kara Clifford, will speak at the event, which begins at 1 p.m., according to a news release.
Clifford is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in Flight Technology and Operations.
She began her aviation career doing flight line service and ground support to her current position as charter captain for Griffing Aviation, flying its Beechcraft Super King Air.
The public is welcome to listen to a discussion of women’s history, the release said.

Avon High hosts talk on vaping
With the use of vaping is on the rise among middle and high school students, Avon High School Student Services is hosting a special presentation from The LCADA Way for parents.
The event will take place at 7 p.m., Jan. 31, at Avon High School, 37545 Detroit Road.
The program will address the truth about vaping and what every parent needs to know, according to a news release.
Lorain church plans clothing sale
Worship services and clothing sold at 50 cents a bag will be provided during the Feed the Hungry/Clothe the Needy Sale on Jan. 18.
The sale will take place at the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road in Lorain, and will run from 10 a.m. to noon, according to a news release.
The event also will include worship starting at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., and Sunday school for both children and adults starting at 9:30 a.m., the release said.
Casino trips planned in Jan., Feb.
The American Hungarian Council of Lorain County, Inc., announced it is sponsoring several casino trips.
They are: Jan. 30 to Mountineer, W.V., cost is $35 while incentives are $25; Feb. 13 to Jack’s Thistledown, cost is $25 while incentives are $25; and Feb. 27 to Jack’s Cleveland, cost is $25 while incentives are $25.
Bus departs from Marc’s parking lot in Sheffield Township at 9 a.m., and departs casino at 6 p.m.

Organic vegetable grower Marty Kerns will present a program on “How to grow organic and what she grows and takes to market from Milan,” according to a news release.
