Students celebrated 100 days of school Feb. 11 with various activities commemorating the occasion at Avon East Elementary School.

Erin Holzhauer, principal of Avon East Elementary at 3100 Nagel Road, said the celebration is something that has been going on for some time at the elementary

level.

“It is a look at the growth of the students since the beginning of the year,” Holzhauer said. “We look at how they are 100 days smarter and what has been learned during that time.

“It’s something that they get excited to be a part of.”

Morgan Rudge, a secondgrade teacher at the school, said the day is a special one for the students.

“They get excited about it,” Rudge said. “I think it is viewed as a milestone for them.

“I think they take some pride in having been in the year for 100 days, and all they have done during that time.”

Rudge said the school will celebrate with the theme of the number 100 through a myriad of different projects and activities.

“The number 100 guides the day, so the students will be coloring glasses that are shaped in the number 100 and can be cut out for them to wear,” she said. “We also have a prompt where I ask them for a paragraph response of how they would help people if given $100.

“It’s something where they will be working on something throughout the day, so it’s an overall fun day for them.”

Jessica Schneeberger, a second-grade teacher at the school, said the day is a good way to illustrate the time students have spent in school.

“We have activates that

illustrate the significance of being at the school for 100 days,” Schneeberger said. “The activities provide an opportunity for some hands-on learning activities for them, so it all works out pretty well.

“We have them putting

patterns together, stacking up cups numbered 1 to 100, putting together 100-piece puzzles and other things like that.

“They have done a good job at solving all the different puzzles and they are having a good time while they do it.”
