Social media users react to Hunt signing

- By Nate Barnes nbarnes@news-herald.com @NateBarnes_ on Twitter

The Browns’ signing of Kareem Hunt thrust the franchise into the sports spotlight when it was announced in the afternoon Feb. 11. Hunt was released by the Chiefs in December after video became public that showed him shoving and kicking a woman in Cleveland last February.

Hunt is a Willoughby native and graduate of South High School in 2013. He played at Toledo before John Dorsey, then the general manager of the Chiefs, drafted him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The 23-year-old remains on the commissioner’s exempt list while the league continues its investigation into last year’s events.

Leading sports reporters and personalities took to Twitter to lend analysis and perspective on Hunt’s return to an NFL roster.

• “Kareem Hunt will replace Hue Jackson in taking carries away from Nick Chubb.” — @Reflog_18

• “Since he was released by the #Chiefs, RB Kareem Hunt has done alcohol and anger management counseling. He’ll continue to do so. Hunt has had his meeting with NFL investigators regarding 3 incidents, and a suspension is coming. At the end of all that, he’ll play for the #Browns.” — @RapSheet • “Kareem Hunt is ON VIDEO kicking a woman while she’s on the ground and still got signed. Thank God he didn’t take a knee protesting social justice.” — @mikefreemanNFL

• “Former Chiefs’ GM John Dorsey drafted Kareem Hunt in Kansas City and he now he is gambling again on Hunt as the Browns’ general manager.” — @AdamSchefter

• “Cleveland is betting, probably correctly, that fans will let this go by the time Hunt actually plays (if he plays well). That’s an indictment of society more than anything.” — @minakimes

• “Now that Kareem Hunt has signed with the

Browns, he will be placed on the commissioner’s exempt

list until the league makes a final decision on discipline. The expectation, as the Browns’ announcement indicates, is that he will be suspended for a portion of this season.” — @DanGrazianoESPN

• “Going to abstain form comment on Kareem Hunt untill Peter King tells me if he will still consider electing him to the hall of fame” — @PFTCommenter

• “I have zero issue with the Browns signing Kareem Hunt. He was punished pretty severely when the video came out & I believe he deserves a second chance. I know Twitter only believes in good and evil, but he isn’t evil, he made a mistake. His talent still outweighs his problems.” — @ ClayTravis
