Retired Teachers Association offering scholarships
The Lorain County Retired Teachers Association is offering scholarships to Lorain County high school seniors and current college students pursuing teaching or education majors. Those interested in applying must be a Lorain County high school graduate, according to a news release. Two scholarships are being offered: the Orrin R. Findley Scholarship; and the Mary Elizabeth Keller Scholarship. The Retired Teachers Association offers the Findley Scholarship annually and provides $1,000 in scholarships to qualified college-bound high school seniors who are the children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of active or retired Lorain County educators, the release said. The number of awards is contingent on the number of suitable candidates, the release said. All application materials including references and transcripts must be received by the April 12, 2019, deadline. The Keller Scholarship fund supports current college students who are declared education majors, the release said. Students need to have junior class standing by the next fall term. Eligible students must pursue a teaching career at any level of education from Pre-K through 12th grade, the release said. The scholarship ranges from $1,000 to $1,500. The deadline to apply for the Keller Scholarship application is April 1, 2019. For application and requirements, go to www. lorcorta.org. Winners for both scholarships will be notified by the middle of May, the release said.
