The Friends of the Lorain Public Library Book Sale is underway at the Lorain Public Library System Main Branch, 351 W. Sixth St.

Patrons have an opportunity to get books, and more, at a low price, organizers say.

“We have a sale that runs for a week,” said Jay Metzger, a member of the Friends of the Library System. “We started Thursday

(May 9), and it will end May 16.

“Right now, we are in our half-off sale. All books are only 50 cents to begin with, and now they are 25 cents. We also have toys and videos that are normally $1 and are now 50 cents.”

Metzger said the savings will continue as the sale winds to a close.

“It depends on what you want, but we should have what you’re looking for.”

“Wednesday, everything will be a nickel, and we will be giving stuff away for a penny on Thursday,” he said. “The prices allow anyone to come and be a part of the sale.

“We do not price things at a ridiculous amount.

Some folks may not be able to shop very often, but everyone can afford a penny. It allows the whole community to be a part of the sale.”

Metzger said the sale offers a good variety.

“We have everything from fiction, young adult, nonfiction, mystery; it depends on what you are interested in,” he said. “Chances are we got it here.”

Metzger said the sale raises money for the library.

“When the library is looking to do a program, we help out with the purchasing of a book or whatever they may need,” he said. “We might also help if they would need new chairs for the computer lab or something like that.”

Metzger said the sale is a way to make good use of books the library does not have a need for.

“These are the books that were at the library, but weren’t taken out for a certain period of time,” he said. “They need to make room for the newer stuff, so the sale allows us to find a home for the books.

“We also get book donations from folks in the community who just don’t have the extra space.
