JVS students compete at state event; advance to nationals

Students from the Lorain County JVS Culinary Academy, Early Childhood Education program and a few Career Exploration sophomores, recently participated in the state competition of Family Career & Community Leaders of America held in Columbus.

Early Childhood Education instructor Hilary Duffala shared how proud she was of all of the students.

“These students worked so hard and have made everyone at Lorain County JVS so proud. Their work and dedication has really paid off,” she said.

Twelve students earned the opportunity to attend the national competition being held in Anaheim, California, in July.

The students are:

AMHERST

Maddison Morrow (Career Exploration sophomore) received a gold medal in the Promote and Publicize Event and will advance to nationals

BROOKSIDE

Teresa Clay (Early Childhood Education junior) received a gold medal in the National Programs in Action Event and will advance to nationals; Mackenzie Glass (Early Childhood Education senior) received a gold medal in the Chapter Service Project Display Event; Aliyah Wilson (Career Exploration sophomore) received a gold medal in the Chapter in Review Display and will advance to nationals

CLEARVIEW

Katie Brunecz (Culinary Arts junior) received a gold medal in the Culinary Team Event

ELYRIA

Joyce Fraticelli Maldonado (Bakery and Pastry Arts junior) received a gold medal in the Creative Cake Event; Rebecca Perrine (Culinary Arts junior) received a gold medal in the Food Innovations Event; Dakota Serrano (Hospitality Services B senior) received a gold medal in the Product Development Event; Amnesty Vinson (Bakery and Pastry Arts junior) received a gold medal in the Pastry Tray Event

FIRELANDS

Victoria Barnett (Bakery and Pastry Arts senior) received a gold medal in the Hospitality and Tourism Event and will advance to nationals; Star Vaughn (Early Childhood Education senior) received a gold medal in the Chapter Service Project Display Event

KEYSTONE

Jill Behner (Culinary Arts junior) received a silver medal in the Career Investigation Event; Mai Kaewsoongnern (Culinary Arts junior) received a gold medal in the Garde Manger Event; Samantha Nelson (Bakery and Pastry Arts junior) received a gold medal in the Creative Cake Event; Jason Rising (Hospitality Services B senior) received a gold medal in the Product Development Event

MIDVIEW

Anna Baldwin (Bakery and Pastry Arts senior) received a gold medal in the Pastry Tray Event and a gold medal in the Hospitality and Tourism Event and will advance to nationals; Chris Ice (Culinary Arts senior) received a silver medal in the Applied Culinary Math Event; Ronnie Kisner (Culinary Arts senior) received a gold medal in the Applied Culinary Math Event and will advance to nationals; Kristian Savel (Culinary Arts senior) received a gold medal in the Career Investigation Event and will advance to nationals; Nicole Von Seggern (Career Exploration sophomore) received a gold medal in the Chapter in Review Display and will advance to nationals; Autumn White-Hupp (Career Exploration sophomore) received a gold medal in the Promote and Publicize Event and will advance to nationals;
