‘Third Thursday’ brings dozens of musical acts to the city’s downtown
Music lined the streets of downtown Vermilion for the first Third Thursday of 2019. Strolling down Liberty Avenue people could see an array of musical artists donating their time to liven up Vermilion as summer season approaches. The free event runs through Sept. 19 on the third Thursday of every month and continues to grow since its inception 14 years ago. Beginning with five bands in the inaugural year, the event regularly attracts at least 20 different groups. different landmarks. The event also featured a karaoke station so guests could get in on the action. Liberty Avenue, State Route 60 and Main Street were filled with music and guests could stroll to their ear’s delight in enjoying the bright sounds of the city’s downtown core. The process is presented in cooperation with the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce and is done with the help of a team of volunteers from organizers, staff and musicians in creating a fun atmosphere in downtown Vermilion. According to organizer Barb Brady, the event is geared toward downtown merchants and bands. Third Thursday will continue on June 20, July 18, Aug. 15 and Sept. 19 from 6:30 p.m. until sunset.
