PREPARING FOR THE FEST
Lakeview Park prepares for its first ever Sunset Beach Fest on Aug. 17
Lakeview Park is gearing up for its first ever Sunset Beach Fest featuring a slew of different beach-side activities.
“This is the first one of these we are doing,” said Bryan Goldthorpe, manager of the park, 1800 W. Erie Ave. “It’s something new we wanted to try.
“We use to hold a Kayak-athon around this time of year and we had a beach party in the spring. Weather wouldn’t really cooperate for the beach party, so we thought we would try this as a kind of end-of-theseason event here at the beach.”
Sunset Beach Fest will run from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Aug. 17.
Goldthorpe said the event will include paddlesport activities.

said. “We will have instructors and equipment courtesy of the Lorain County Metro Parks.
“It will be a great opportunity for anyone who likes to do that.”
Goldthorpe said the event also will have activities for children.
“They will have different things including giant Jenga blocks,” he said. “There will be plenty of fun activities, including sand castle building.”

“The Sunset Cafe will be open during the event,” he said. “We will also be sellThe ing beer, and the concession stand will be open through the Beach Fest.”
scheduled activities include an opportunity from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. to paddle a kayak, canoe or standup paddleboard for free.
The paddlesport activities for anyone ages 8 to 15 must be done in a canoe or tandem kayak with an adult.
The Kid’s Corner will run from 3-6 p.m. including games and sand castle building, according to a Metro Park news release.
DJ Superfly will perform from 3-6 p.m., and educational displays from Lorain County Community College, Black River Astronomical Society, Black River Area of Concern, Common Ground, Lorain County Metro Parks and more will be in the Sunset Terrace from 3-6 p.m. as well.
Beach Yoga, provided
by Threads of Wellness, is scheduled for 6-7 p.m.
From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., there will be live music by “Nomad Soul,” a camp fire and astronomy and a drum circle by Common Ground.
Beach Volleyball takes place from 3-8:30 p.m.
Food will be available on the Sunset Terrace from 3-7 p.m. and beer will be sold on the patio from 3-8 p.m.
You must be 21 years or older to purchase alcohol.
It is not permitted to consume alcohol prior to participation in the paddlesport activities, the release said.
Consumption of alcohol will be limited to the patio and Sunset Terrace.
