Hawthorne Elementary custodian dies

The Lorain City School District announced the death of one of its employees, Larry D. Indre, who was a life-long Lorain resident, according to a news release.

62.

A 1975 graduate of Southview High School and retired, U.S. Steel millwright of 34 years, Indre came to Lorain City Schools in 2016, where he served as head custodian at Hawthorne Elementary School.

Hawthorne Turnaround Principal Stephanie Alexander-Johnson said her staff and students always will hold a place in their hearts for Indre, as he will forever be a part of the Hawthorne family.

Alexander-Johnson noted that Indre was an integral part of staff cohesivene­ss that allowed for Hawthorne Elementary to run smoothly in, according to the release.

Alexander-Johnson said she will always remember Indre as a mentor to sudents.

“Larry will always be remembered for his smile, his quietness, his chicken paprikash and his generous heart for the scholars,” she said.

Alexander-Johnson said Hawthorne will be planning a memorial with the help of students once school begins next week, according to the release.

Chief Operations Officer Jeffery Hawks remembered Indre as dedicated employee who took care of Hawthorne Elementary as if it were his own, the release said.

“The pride that he had for that building was unbelievab­le,” Hawks said. “The news of Larry’s passing is truly a loss to Lorain City Schools.”
