Elementary hires new teaching staff, assistant principal
A new assistant principal and four teachers at Vincent Elementary School are among the many new hires Clearview Local Schools announced during an Aug. 12 Board of Education meeting.
Jennifer Fazio, previously of Avon Lake City Schools, officially started as assistant principal Aug. 1 and has exceeded expectations, according to Vincent Elementary principal Lynne Stark.
Picked from a pool of
over 50 applicants, Stark said a video Fazio made as a part of her application on the theme of “making Vincent your home” made her stand out.
“It really spoke to everybody at Vincent,” Stark said. “It was exactly what we were looking for, so there was absolutely no question in my mind ... We’ve worked very well together over the last few weeks trying to get some things ready for our first day of school, so I’m very happy to have her on board.”
Fazio has already begun work with the school in the staff hiring process as well, Stark said.
In addition to her work as a preschool director and part-time assistant principal at Redwood Elementary School, Stark said Fazio previously worked for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District as a special education supervisor.
Board member Mike Kokinda said that although the creation of the assistant principal decision was on a tight decision-making process, he said announcements of hiring staff should be done after it makes it to the Board.
“We should always try to be on top of things as much as we can so we can approve them,” Kokinda said.
Rosanna Darby and Julia Feicks were hired as intervention specialists, Jessica Mazelis as a third-grade teacher and Haley Bednarski as a fourth-grade teacher, all effective Aug. 19.
Stark said Feicks and Mazelis will work together with their third-grade class.
Superintendent Jerome Davis said all positions with the district now are filled for the school year.
A position filled Aug. 16 will be on the next Board agenda for approval Sept. 9, Davis said.
