Scout from Amherst earns Eagle rank
Kaleb Keenan Cook, son of Keenan and Norma Cook of Amherst, earned the Boy Scouts of America’s highest achievement of Eagle Scout rank on June 19.
Kaleb, 14, is a member of Elyria Troop 107 where he earned 21 merit badges and demonstrated leadership and community service by organizing and carrying out an Eagle project. This accomplishment represents over eight years of adventure, fun, work, and dedication to the Boy Scout program.
During the process of satisfying the requirements for Eagle rank, Kaleb completed service to the community, held several leadership positions in the troop, attended several summer camps, and attended S.A.L.T (Summit Adventure Leadership Training) at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. He was also called out to become an Order of the Arrow member in 2017.
For his Eagle project, Kaleb designed, raised funds, purchased supplies and built a 20 by 10 foot overlook deck that is ADA accessible overlooking the Black River at Days Dam Metro Park in Lorain.
Kaleb is a freshman at Ohio Virtual Academy. He is also a College Credit Plus student at Lorain County Community College where he is taking classes toward an Engineering Degree.
Kaleb enjoys participating in the sport of Judo, sailing, rock climbing, bowling, and is a member of the Black River Archery Team (B.R.A.T.) in Elyria.
Kaleb will be formally presented the Eagle Scout award at a Court of Honor ceremony in September.
