Lorain County Public Health announced that it will provide flu shots for the season starting Nov. 1.

Lorain County Public Health announced it will provide flu shots starting Nov. 1.

A f lu shot in November offers people the best protection through the peak flu season in Northeast Ohio, according to a news release from Lorain County Public Health.

People should mark their calendars for a flu shot in November to give them and their loved ones the best chance of missing the flu virus, the release said.

“The flu virus can be present year round, but cases and severity of flu are highest between January and March here in Northeast Ohio,” said David Covell, Lorain County Public Health commissioner. “Flu, also called influenza, can cause severe illness, hospitalization and even death.

“It’s easy to come in contact with the flu virus – it’s in droplets from an infected person as they cough, sneeze and talk.”

Covell said it’s important to remember that when people get flu shots, they are helping to protect themselves and the people they love.

“Everyone knows someone who is at high risk for complications from the flu virus,” he said. “Our loved ones with chronic health conditions, such as asthma, heart and lung disease, diabetes and cancers may have more health problems if they get the flu virus.

“Get your flu shot to help others.”
