Car club meets in style for picnic
A garage decked out in lights, car memorabilia and collectibles in Brownhelm Township was this year’s annual picnic meet-up spot for the Styles Car Club.
The members’ classic cars were parked in rows outside on the lawn of a member’s residence as they ate lunch and socialized.
“It’s an annual event here,” club president Bill Pozega said. “Everybody brings food.”
A group made up of almost 50 members, he said the club was originally established in 1958 and has remained intact solely through the passion of likeminded people and their antique vehicles.
“Basically it’s just a social event where we can all meet up,” Pozega said.
Members also participate in car shows, both individually and as a club.
The picnic, along with a Christmas party in the winter, are the club’s two only major get-togethers, with informal meetings held every Tuesday to discuss car shows and donation opportunities.
For each of those meetings, attendees bring $5 each for food, with leftover funds going to needs of the club, such as tables or chairs, or charitable endeavors.
Pozega said the club’s latest discussions of the donation of funds have included sending what they have to hurricane relief programs.
Having been active for 60 years, there are still members of the club that have been around since its inception.
Carl Lazevich, Al Phillips and Don Macan are all founding members that have stuck around after seeing the club grow from an original 18 to a present 48 members, which hail from around Lorain County and in cities like Avon and Vermilion.
“We kind of got together to promote the sports aspect of cars,” Macan said of the club’s inception.
Phillips said his favorite part about being in the group is “enjoying the cars and being around people who enjoy the same thing.”
