LCCC has another seasonal film series locked and loaded

LCCC Fall Film Series includes a classic and acclaimed newer flicks from the U.S. and elsewhere

Lorain County Community College regularly brings in a variety of movies to show during its seasonal film series, and the soonto-start LCCC Fall Film Series looks to continue that tradition.

The series includes foreign films, such as the series-opening “Becoming Astrid” from Sweden and Denmark; critical faves such as “The Wife,” which earned star Glenn Close an Academy Award nomination; documentar­ies, such as “The Biggest Little Farm”; and classics such as 1980’s “Ordinary People,” which boasts wonderful performanc­es by Mary Tyler Moore, Judd Hirsch, Timothy Hutton and, last but not least, Donald Sutherland.

Each film will set you back $7 and be shown at 7:30 p.m. in the Hoke Theatre at Stocker Arts Center, 1005 Abbe Road N., Elyria.

“BECOMING ASTRID”

Sept. 13

2018 (Not Rated) 123 minutes. Sweden/Denmark/subtitles

This NY Times Critics Pick tells the story of Astrid Lindgren, who later went on to write the Pippi Longstocki­ng series of books.

“NEVER LOOK AWAY”

Sept. 20

2018 (R) 189 minutes. Germany/subtitles

Nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Foreign Language Film, “Never Look Away” follows thirty years in the life of Kurt, a great artist loosely based on Gerhard Richter.

“THE WIFE”

Sept. 27

2018 (R) 100 minutes. USA

“The Wife” is a film that celebrates a woman who takes back the power that she should rightfully possess–in a thought-provoking, witty, dignified and graceful manner, and with a twist ending that you really don’t see coming.

“COLD WAR”

Oct. 11

2018 (R) 89 minutes. Poland/subtitles

This ravishing music-fueled romance charting two mismatched lovers caught between East and West in 1950s Europe, was a critical and audience favorite at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it was awarded the Best Director prize, and a major 2019 Oscar contender.

“THE BIGGEST LITTLE FARM”

This documentar­y chronicles John and Molly Chester, who trade city living for 200 acres of barren farmland outside of Los Angeles and follow their dream to harvest in harmony with nature.

“WOMAN AT WAR”

Halla is a 50-year-old independen­t woman. But behind the scenes of a quiet routine, she leads a double life as a passionate environmen­tal activist until her applicatio­n to adopt a child has finally been accepted and there is a little girl waiting for her in Ukraine.

“ORDINARY PEOPLE”

“Ordinary People,” a classic portrait of family life in the face of tragedy, is moving and thought provoking. It was Robert Redford’s award-winning directoria­l debut.

“BRIDE FLIGHT”

2009 (Not Rated) 130 minutes. Holland/subtitles

Using the 1953 Air Race from London to Christchur­ch, New Zealand,

“Bride Flight” is about the people who were on that plane and how their lives before and after that flight irrevocabl­y changed and connected them.
