Crop comments: After Avon dismantled 3-1 Midview, 56-0, one can only imagine what the Eagles might do to 0-5Westlake. … After dominating three consecutiv­e winless teams, Avon Lake has a challenge this week in 4-1Amherst. The Shoremen allowed just seven points in those three games, with the lone score coming after Avon Lake held a 45-0 lead. … Olmsted Falls rode some halftime adjustment­s to a huge comeback victory over previously unbeaten Amherst, 19-17. The Bulldogs next play winless Lakewood before finishing the season against four teams that are a combined 15-5. … Amherst held a 14-0 halftime lead over Olmsted Falls, but the Comets couldn’t close the deal. No chance to sit back and take a deep breath, as Avon Lake is next. … After a killer first four games, Bay got something of a break last week in facing Fairview. This week the stakes go right back up, as 4-1 Holy Name comes to town. … Keystone has now won four in a row after dropping a 26-20 decision to Bay that saw the Wildcats have a potential go-ahead touchdown called back late in the game because of a penalty. After cruising past Columbia, the Wildcats next face Black River, with whom they are tied atop the LCL. … The SWC has developed into a situation of the haves (Avon, Avon Lake, Olmsted Falls, Amherst) and the have-nots (Berea-Midpark, North Ridgeville, Lakewood, Westlake) with Midview and North Olmsted somewhere in the middle. Those two 3-2 teams meet this week at North Olmsted. … Clearview had some trouble with Oberlin before pulling away to a 40-26victory. The Clippers have yet to defeat a team with a winning record, which is why they sit 17th in Division IV, Region 14 despite being 4-1. That could change this week, as next up is 3-2Wellingto­n. … North Olmsted’s results are similar to that of Clearview, as the Eagles’ three victories are over teams with a combined record of 0-15. North Olmsted could change that trend this week when hosting 3-2Midview. … Elyria Catholic just needs a victory — any victory. The Panthers have been playing great games against highlevel opponents but haven’t been able to finish them off, losing to Bay, Medina Buckeye and Padua by a total of 18points. EC next faces Valley Forge, which is trying to get back on track after consecutiv­e losses to Bay and Buckeye.
