Bay Village police break up huge party

- — Staff report

Bay Village police had an unusual call Oct. 6 when officers had to break up a large house party.

A noise complaint was made at 11:01 p.m., Oct. 5, for a house in the 27000 block of Lake Road.

Officers were called to the house a second time at 1:40 a.m., Oct. 6, and ordered the party-goers to leave the residence, according to Bay Village police Lt. Calvin Holliday.

The party exceeded 300 people at a point, and some of them trespassed on other people’s property, Holliday said.

Officers were able to get people to disperse peacefully, he said.

Individuals on scene stated they rented the home from AirBNB.

However, the homeowner’s daughter arrived at the scene and claimed the house was not rented and that no one should be in there.

“It’s one of the things we’re looking into; trying to find out if the home was rented or not,” Holliday said. “Presently, the individual who was hosting the party could be looking at a disturbing the peace charge, which is only a minor misdemeanor, but more charges could be added.”

Complaints came into the police station regarding a large number of party-goers including fighting, public urination, marijuana use and gun shots.

The officers could not find any evidence those acts took place, Holliday said.

Due to the number of people at the party, Bay Village police received mutual aid from Rocky River and Westlake police, and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers.
