See stats on area high school soccer players and which players made it into the Top of the Crop. Plus, Joe Magill has the latest on the Matt Wilhelm Award watch list after Week 6 of high school football.

QB Michael Corbo, Jr., Avon Lake: The Shoremen won their 20th consecutive game over Amherst, with Corbo leading the way. The junior quarterback completed 15of 18passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns as Avon Lake took a 35-0 decision.

SS Adaveon Drummer, Sr., Elyria: Coach Devlin Culliver wasn’t there to witness his team’s 56-20 loss to Medina, as he had an emergency appendectomy the day before the game. Had he been there, he would have seen his senior safety set a school record with a 100-yard interception return. Drummer also had two touchdown receptions and ran the ball once for 20 yards.

RB Stephen Ellis, Sr., Olmsted Falls: Making astounding use of his limited touches, Ellis carried the ball seven times for 136 yards and three touchdowns in his team’s 42-14victory over Lakewood. In case you’re wondering, that’s 19.43 yards per carry.

QB Anthony Guercio, Jr., North Olmsted: The Eagles’ junior quarterback has had some standout games this season, but he might have been at his best in his team’s 34-20 victory over Midview. He completed 18 of 28 passes for 254 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried the ball 14times for 107 yards and a touchdown.

QB Ben Higgins, Sr., Wellington: The Dukes pulled a major upset over Clearview, 26-24. After spotting the Clippers an 18-0 lead, Wellington and Higgins went to work and came back to win the game. The senior completed 13of 27passes for 260 yards and four touchdowns.

WR Tyshawn Lighty, Sr., Lorain: The Titans had their hands full with a very good team from Cleveland Heights, but Lighty did all that he could to try to lead his team to victory. The senior had 8 receptions for 147 yards and two touchdowns and also scored on a 25-yard run. But, alas, it wasn’t enough as the Tigers won, 35-28.

WR Owen Menge, So., Columbia: With a roster that includes only two seniors, the victories have been hard to come by for the Raiders. Last week’s 53-24 decision over Oberlin was Columbia’s first victory of the season. Several players had outstanding games for the Raiders, but it was the allaround play of Menge that led the way. The sophomore scored two touchdowns and had 226 all-purpose yards — 80 rushing, 70 receiving, 40 on a kick return and 36 on an interception return.

QB Steven Navalinsky, Jr., Elyria Catholic: The first-year quarterback has had an outstanding season, and he was at it again as the Panthers rolled all over Valley Forge, 43-10. The junior only attempted 11passes, but he completed nine of them for 287 yards and four touchdowns.

QB Jacob Shackelford, Sr., Keystone: The Wildcats have won five games in a row, including last week’s 25-6victory over Black River that gave Keystone sole possession of first place in the Lorain County League. Keystone’s dual-threat quarterback stood out again against the Pirates, as he completed 8of 16passes for 107yards and two touchdowns and also carried the ball 18times for 147yards and one score.

QB Ethan Surdock, So., Midview: While the Middies have lost three of their last four games, it hasn’t been because of the play of their first-year quarterback. In a 34-20loss to North Olmsted, the sophomore completed 20of 32passes for 240 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 48 yards.
