Elyria Catholic High School names winners of Scott Holland Memorial Scholarship
Elyria Catholic High School has announced that juniors Faith Belza and Aidan Timko are the 2019 Scott Holland Memorial Scholarship Award winners.
Much like Scott Holland ’02, both Faith and Aidan have been recognized as students who are passionate and kind to others, through their involvement in academics, athletics and extracurriculars, Scott’s greatest contribution was how he lived his life to the fullest, pursued his passions and showed overwhelming kindness to everyone in his life. It is the family’s hope that this scholarship will assist Elyria Catholic students in achieving their passions in life and promoting kindness by keeping Scott’s spirit alive, a news release from the school states.
Scott M. Holland graduated from Elyria Catholic in 2002 and from Bowling Green State University in May 2006. Scott was extremely involved while at Elyria Catholic. He received varsity letters in golf and hockey, was involved in Peer Ministry and various other service organizations throughout the Elyria Catholic community. Scott was passionate about everything he did in life. As a young boy, he had a dream of being a pilot. He made that passionate dream come true when he graduated from BGSU. Scott was a pilot for Air America Advertising in Toledo. As part of his job, he towed aerial banners over stadiums and various venues before the start of events.
On July 12, 2006, he was flying to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Pittsburgh when he encountered mechanical problems and attempted an emergency landing. Unfortunately, the wing of the plane clipped high-tension wires; he did not survive the accident.
