Clearview High School, 4700 Broadway Ave. in Lorain, will host Jan. 28 a screening of the movie “SUICIDE:The Ripple Effect.”

Suicide prevention and mental health are very important issues that affect many students and many people in this community, according to a news release from Clearview.

To help draw attention to this issue, Clearview Schools is hosting a special screening of the new inspirational documentary which will be followed by an engaging discussion on the topic, the release said.

Counselors will be available for support following the film which starts at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

Tickets are free and can be picked up during school hours or at the door.

Students will sell concessions, and all proceeds will go to suicide prevention agencies, the release said.

The film chronicles the story of Kevin Hines, who at age 19, attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge.

Since then, Kevin has been on a mission to use his story to help others find recovery and stay alive, and has become the world’s most prominent suicide prevention speaker and advocate, the release said.

The film also features some of the world’s leading suicide prevention experts and shines light on people who are using personal experiences with suicide to help others find the hope they need to stay alive.

Bringing people together to view this film and discuss the topic will have a positive impact on reducing the number of suicides and suicide attempts in our community, the release said.

With support in attending the event and/or sharing the event with family and friends, experts can draw more attention to this devastating health crisis, while helping more people find the support they need to #BeHereTomorrow, the release said.
