Giannis to miss at least two games

-

Reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has a minor knee sprain and will miss at least the Milwaukee Bucks’ next two games.

The Bucks said March 8 that Antetokounmpo had an MRI and was examined by team doctor William Raasch. The evaluation showed a minor joint capsule sprain of Antetokounmpo’s left knee.

The 6-foot-11 forward was to miss the two remaining games on the Bucks’ trip — March 8 at Phoenix and March 9 at Denver.

His status for the Bucks’ home game March 12 against Boston will be determined later.

“The way they described it to me is we’ll see how the next few days go and kind of evaluate him and see where he is then,” Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said.

Antetokounmpo took a hard fall late in a 113103 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on March 6. He remained in the game but appeared to be limping as he walked off the court afterward.

“Overall we’re very pleased,” Budenholzer said. “I think this is about as good an outcome and prognosis as we could hope for, I guess, unless it was nothing.”

LAKERS TOP CLIPPERS » Anthony Davis scored 30 points, LeBron James added 28 and the Lakers beat the Clippers, 112-103, snapping their Staples Center co-tenant’s six-game winning streak.

Avery Bradley added 24 points to help the Lakers won their fourth in a row and 11th in 12 games. They pulled away in the second half after the Clippers’ smothering defense helped them lead most of the first two quarters.

The Lakers recently clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2013, and it’s possible they could meet the Clippers in the postseason. The crowd made it feel like a playoff atmosphere, with a strong contingent of raucous Lakers fans on hand for what was a Clippers’ home game. They chanted “MVP! MVP!” when James completed a 3-point play that tied the Lakers’ largest lead of 12 points with 40 seconds to play.

Paul George scored 31 points, Kawhi Leonard added 27 and Montrezl Harrell had 20 for the Clippers.

With the Lakers up by four points, James hit a 3-pointer to open the fourth. His 3-point play and a basket by Davis capped a 14-6 run that pushed it to 99-87.
