Main Street Vermilion has had to alter its plans due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, but it’s still moving forward with art events that will show off creativity and beautify the downtown area.
Chalk it Up
“We are still doing our Chalk it Up event,” said Marilou Suszko, executive director of Main Street Vermilion. “Normally, we would have the artists on the road working on the projects as folks walk by.
“We obviously can’t do that this year, so the committee had the idea to have the artists bring large portable chalkboards home with them and do the project. We will then have the boards distributed to host location stores and businesses.
“This will be our fifth year doing this. It isn’t quite the event we normally have, but it will be great artwork.”
The chalkboards will be displayed Aug. 7 and will remain up through Aug. 31.
All Washed Up
Suszko said Main Street’s “All Washed Up” exhibit also will make a return.
“We did our first one last year, and it features a variety of professional and amateur driftwood artists,” she said. “We put it out there, that we were doing the exhibit, and we got 12 entrants.
“Between the two exhibits, it will give folks a reason to come to Vermilion to see some great artwork.”
The All Washed Up exhibit will be up from Aug. 10 to Sept. 10.
Postcard unveiling
Suszko also said Public Art Vermilion, a group under Main Street Vermilion, is going to unveil its 12th postcard Aug. 6.
“The project features post cards, that are 5 feet by 8 feet, being made and posted on walls throughout town,” she said. “The reveal for that will be on Instagram.
“It adds to all of the quality art that is being made for Vermilion.”
