Antetokoun­mpo, Bucks end series with win over Magic

Giannis Antetokoun­mpo had 28 points and 17 rebounds and the Bucks beat the Magic 118-104 on Aug. 29 to close out the Eastern Conference series in five games.

The Bucks advanced to face Miami in the second round, beginning Aug. 31.

Chris Middleton added 21 points and 10 rebounds for Milwaukee. The Bucks had a 21-point lead trimmed to three in the fourth quarter before regaining control with the help of timely outside shooting by Marvin Williams.

Williams scored all 12 of his points on 3-pointers, and Brook Lopez added 16 points for Milwaukee, which won four straight after dropping the opener.

EX-BLAZERS START ROBINSON DIES » Cliff Robinson, an early star in UConn’s rise to power and longtime top sixth man in the NBA, died Aug. 29. He was 53. Robinson’s death was confirmed by UConn. No cause of death was given, though former Huskies coach Jim Calhoun said Robinson had a stroke 2 ½ years ago.

JOHNSON, MATSUYAMA TIED FOR LEAD » Dustin Johnson is 21 shots worse to par than he was a week ago and still looks to be the player to beat. Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama survived another demanding day at Olympia Fields, both scratching out a 1-under 69 that felt better than it looked to share the lead at the BMW Championsh­ip. Everyone else was over par going into the final round.

French roads, the strangest Tour de France ever set off in a bubble of anti-COVID protocols to try to keep the 176 riders virus-free for three weeks of racing through the country’s worsening epidemic. Only after riders peeled off their face masks and pedaled off from the start in the Mediterran­ean city of Nice, serenaded by a uniformed band playing “La Marseillai­se,” did the Tour begin to look like its old, pre-COVID self.
